Getting started: Home Roaster

A Home Roaster account is built for hobbyist roasters. On top of everything a Coffee Lover can do, you get tools to track green coffee, design repeatable roast profiles, and log every roast so you can reproduce your best results.

What a Home Roaster account is for

  • Keeping an inventory of green beans you have on hand
  • Creating roast profiles you can roast against again and again
  • Logging roasts and what came out of them
  • Brewing and rating the coffee you roasted — closing the loop

First steps after signing up

  1. Pick the Home Roaster persona. On the account setup screen, choose Individual Roaster under "I am a..." This unlocks the roasting tools and starts your 14-day free trial.
  2. Add your green beans. In the roasting section, go to Green Beans and add the unroasted coffee you have — origin, variety, and other details.
  3. Create a roast profile or recipe. Set up a profile or recipe that describes how you want to roast. Profiles are versioned, so you can refine them over time without losing earlier versions.
  4. Log a roast. Record an actual roast — what green beans you used, the profile you followed, and how it turned out.
  5. Log brews. Once your roasted coffee has rested, brew it, rate it, and add tasting notes. See How to log your first brew.

Tips

  • Use versioned profiles to track how a recipe evolves — each version keeps a changelog.
  • Logging roasts and brews together is the fastest way to learn how roast changes affect the cup.
